TMSA is supporting the COMESA-EAC-SADC Tripartite’s Comprehensive Tripartite Trade and Transport Facilitation Programme (CTTTFP) - a series of initiatives from different RECs that have been brought together into one comprehensive programme aimed at reducing the cost of trading across borders.
As part of the CTTTFP, and in an attempt to reduce the time taken to move regional products to cross-border markets, the three Regional Economic Communities are working towards simpler, harmonised customs procedures and legislation.
In a recent achievement, twenty Heads of Customs Administrations in the Tripartite area agreed (at their first meeting held on 17-18 November) on a regional work programme. The meeting and work programme development were supported by TMSA.
The work programme includes issues such as Integrated Border Management (IBM), adoption of the Revised Kyoto Convention, transit management and capacity building. This meeting was also attended by the World Customs Organisation, with which the Tripartite and TMSA cooperate in some of the above areas.
